Ice Storm 2011

I'd love to say we've had some snow days this week, but it's really a good old-fashioned Texas ice storm.  Monday night, it rained, then it sleeted, then it wintry-mixed.  Then it all froze. And the temperature hasn't risen above 20 since then.

To say the roads are skating rinks would be an understatement.

We've been lucky here at the house.  While friends are reporting frozen pipes, the only problem we've identified is that the garage door is frozen shut.  We had a power outage on Wednesday morning, but it wasn't very long, and we didn't get another one.  There are rolling "brown outs" all over the state this week.

Tuesday, we all stayed home.  Wednesday, Bryan braved it in his 4WD truck to go to work.  Today, daycare was set to open at 9:30.  I was ready for some quiet, and have I mentioned that it's busy season???

Bryan called from the daycare parking lot to report that the owner was sliding from car to car to give the bad news: the water meter on the street froze overnight, so they had no water.  They couldn't open.  So Bryan had to bring the boys all the way back home before he could head to work.

Meanwhile, I'm totally calling in the parenting.  Movies and TV it is!  One of our kids is entertained enough by this.  The other one is NOT.

Sorry work.  Maybe tomorrow?

Hope you're still hanging in there! And I hope Bryan stays safe driving around out there.

Ugh, what a nightmare. I've heard about Texas Ice storms and it's another one of those things that Texas does bigger and better.

Here's hoping a warm front comes your way soon.
