Craw[ford] Gumbo #90

  • I've been sicky again... same stuff, but not so serious. I'm feeling mildly better today.  I'm functioning, just run down.
  • Fluid in my ears messes with my balance.  Which makes it very hard to walk/run on the treadmill.  Working 12 hours a day makes it hard, too.
  • It's busy season, y'all.
  • I think a good movie might actually win the Oscar for Best Picture this year.  My favorite was The Social Network, but The King's Speech was also excellent.  I've seen half of the nominees, and I wouldn't mind seeing The Fighter and True Grit also.  I think Bryan would like those, too.
  • My mom is coming up this weekend (yea!) to help cover weekend work time.  Also, JTC has his "group interview" (read: observed playdate) at the school we have chosen and a birthday party to go to.  Granny will be on AJC duty!
  • Having Facebook tell everyone it was my birthday was so much fun.  Talk about people coming out of the woodwork to wish me a happy birthday!  I got more "happy birthday's" this year than ever before. Fun!
  • I forgot to put book updates in my last Gumbo.  Here they come!
  • Book: "Run Like a Mother: How to Get Moving--and Not Lose Your Family, Job, or Sanity" by Sarah Bowen Shea and Dimity McDowell.  Free Kindle Download. This is for much more serious runners than me, but it was still a good read.  I relate more to Dimity, but it's nice to have two perspectives on the sport. Thumbs up if you're interested in running.
  • Book: "Fools Rush In (Weddings by Bella, Book 1)" by Janice Thompson.  Free Kindle Download.  Stupid.  I stopped reading well before 100 pages. Thumbs down.
  • Book: "A Total Waste of Makeup" by Kim Gruenenfelder.  $3.24 Kindle Download.  Easy, fun chick lit.  LA assistant to a STAR has love life issues. Would make a good beach read.  Thumbs up.
  • Book: "Always the Baker, Never the Bride" by Sandra D. Bricker.  $2.39 Kindle Download.  Ok chick lit.  A baker takes a job at a wedding hotel and falls for the boss.  Thumbs sideways?
  • Book: "Labor of Love: A Midwife's Memoir" by Cara Muhlhahn.  Free Kindle Download.  Good Lord, is she preachy and self-important.  Annoying.  Thumbs down.
  • Book: "MetaGame" by Sam Landstrom.  $2.99 Kindle Download.  Good, not great, alternate future Sci/Fi.  Techy, as opposed to outerspace-y.  We all have chips in our heads by which we communicate, do work, etc.  Thumbs up.
  • I finally got an iPhone, and I LOVE it!  This morning, the boys and I played "jukebox" on the way to school. (We take turns picking a song off the ipod.)  No one had to ask if I had my iPod with me... it's all on my phone.  And yea for Words with Friends without WiFi!  And texts trended by person instead of timestamp!  Etc, etc, etc.
  • Bryan went to the ENT this morning, and he's going to get a CT scan in two weeks.  They also want him to do a sleep study.  Here's to a healthier 2011 for both of us!!!

Get better already! I meant to post on your FB status yesterday but I liked "The Kids Are Alright". I do think it is a little overrated and not quite deserving of all the attention it is getting. Of course I really enjoyed Black Swan and AM finally getting to see Social Network to watch this weekend.

I loved Run like a Mother, although I found their athletic history in HS to be something I SO could not relate to. Hope you feel better soon!

Date night for us tomorrow night, and I can't decide between The King's Speech or Social Network. Sounds like I can't go wrong, though.

Thanks for the book reviews. I have "Always the Baker, Never the Bride" checked out right now and have been trying to decide to read it. For some reason, I thought it would only be so-so too.

I wish you all much health. Allergies have everyone miserable around here, but at least everyone's understanding about it!

I keep forgetting to tell you about this. http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/neilmed-sinus-rinse-allergy-%26-sinus-kit/ID=prod2598807-product This is what got Andy and I through our sinus infections from hell. It's the same concept as a neti pot, but it's supper easy to use. It's awesome.
