This year, it was Sydnee's turn for a niece date with Aunt Lindsay. Yeah, I know she's not technically my niece, but I love her just the same. She's eight this year, so I knew she could handle a big show. We saw "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" at Winspear Opera House downtown. Our seats were high, but we were in the front row of our balcony, right in the middle. I remembered to bring my little binoculars, and I think she enjoyed it too!
We met Granny/Charlie/Luke/JTC/AJC/Tara/Hannah/Autumn back at our house for pizza and cookie decorating. I baked the cookies and colored the icing in advance. It worked out really well (and having 3 adults certainly didn't hurt!). The boys each decorated 3-4 and moved on to other things, but the girls were cookie-decorating machines! And they all loved the antlers that Aunt Katie sent!
Sunday, I was in charge of entertaining the Pre-K/K Sunday School class (that I teach half the time) when they weren't practicing for the children's music service. We made paper chains, and it was a huge hit. I bought a scrapbook-package of coordinating paper and used the big paper cutter at church to pre-cut strips. We used glue dots (also in the scrapbooking section) to make our chains - much more effective than glue sticks and less messy than school glue. Some of the kids chose (including JTC) chose to make theirs into countdown until Christmas chains, where they will tear one off each day until Christmas. Others went for length. Clearly, I went for length, then proceeded to hang it along our curved staircase in our entry. I'll have to make some adjustments at the end of the season, to make it more hardy (probably hot glue?), but I love the look!
