Phone Photo Friday
AJC had his first speech therapy session yesterday. His therapist came to the house, and we played for about 50 minutes. Along with just helping him say words related to the toys she brought, she did some picture cards with words beginning with vowel sounds and ending with consonants (e.g., "eat," "on," "off"). First, she would just have him repeat the word. He usually got the vowel sound and number of syllables right. Next, she'd have him watch her mouth and stress the last sound. Same response from AJC. Third, she's have him watch but exaggerate the last sound (e.g., "eee-TUH," "bu-GAH"). THAT, he could do for the most part. Very encouraging!
So our homework is to work on getting him to mimic that exaggerated way of saying ending sounds when it comes up. She doesn't want him to get frustrated, so we're only to do it if it's fun... not every word.
Also, if we catch him drooling, she taught me some tricks to get him to be aware of it and close his mouth. We may also do some mouth-strengthening exercises like drinking thick stuff through a straw or blowing cotton balls around.

Adorable boy! If you move to the Deep South, he won't have to learn the last sounds: Eah Yuh Dinnuh!
So glad that you had a good experience and we hope that this helps him progress. Love the pumpkin pictures from the Arboretum too!
That is one beautiful boy!! I am glad it went well for you.
Oh my goodness, he is adorable!! I am glad the therapy was a positive experience and they gave you some helpful tips.
